Meet the candidate

Todd Ireland is a lifelong resident of Calvert County. After nearly 29 years of service, Ireland recently retired from the Calvert County Sheriff's Office. His career began as a Corrections Officer at the Detention Center. After transferring to the Sheriff's Office, Ireland worked his way through the ranks and left his career as Captain. Over the years, he received numerous awards, citations, and proclamations. This could not have been achieved without his dedication to the profession and willingness to serve the citizens of Calvert County.

Family Values

Todd Ireland and his wife, Shirley, live on the family’s farm in Huntingtown with their two boys, TJ and Colby. TJ is a first-year Steamfitter Apprentice with the Local 602 Union. Colby is a Junior at Huntingtown High School. Ireland’s daughter Chelsea lives with her husband, Travis Cratty. She is an Emergency Room Nurse, and he is a USAF pilot. The two are looking forward to the arrival of their first child in April. As Todd becomes a first-time grandfather, his family also welcomes the start of a fourth generation on their family farm. Ireland is joined on his farm by his parents, Tom and Earlene. His sisters, Tammy and Tracie, also reside in Calvert County. Tammy is a local small business owner and Tracie is a teacher in the public school system.

Hard Working

Todd Ireland has spent his entire life fishing, boating, and crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay and Patuxent River. He has a United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential and a Tidal Fishing License through the State of Maryland. He realizes the importance of protecting the environment to ensure future generations can enjoy the bounty these bodies of water have to offer.

Community Oriented

Todd Ireland has always been very active in community organizations especially with the youth, whom he refers to as “Calvert County’s future”. He enjoys volunteering and understands the importance of promoting education. Ireland and a group of parents recently formed the Calvert County Heritage 4H Group to focus on agriculture, livestock, hunting, fishing, and boating in our community.

Todd Ireland has experience in financial management for local community organizations. This has allowed him to recognize the importance of fiscal responsibility. Budget matters will be handled accordingly, and funding will be treated as if it were his own.

Todd Ireland is aware that people move to Calvert County for the exceptional schooling experiences, rural environment, and high safety rating. He will prioritize planned growth while evaluating the infrastructure surrounding designated areas. He will strive to form a relationship with the Board of Education to address improvements/matters surrounding our education system. Ireland will also keep public safety at the forefront to ensure our community needs are fulfilled. Todd Ireland is looking forward to continuing his service to the citizens as a Calvert County Commissioner.
